Polite Society (2023)

This would be just another (admittedly well-produced) mediocrity in the decades-long girl-power dialectic if not for how unhinged it is. The team reject the easy cringe-comedy approach of “all the crazy shit is just a fantasy and the facts are pathetically mundane”. Instead, they go whole-hog on a stylish and chaotic elevated reality—action heroes and monomaniacal villains and everyday kung-fu beatdowns. Nimra Bucha steals the show as Raheela Shah and the remaining performances are often fun enough to make up for the at-times weak dialogue.
